F'ujoshi Yaohi
Diplomat, scholar, and reluctant adventurer with a penchant for engineering.
About

F'ujoshi, known to those close to her as Ujo, spent most of her six and twenty years studying the Allagan Empire and its technology. Born in La Noscea, she spent her childhood burning through books on her interest, which bordered on obsession. Once she had turned ten, she was sent to study in Sharlayan, working toward fulfilling her dream of being a renowned scholar.Ujo's knack for field work, her loaded vocabulary, her sense of propriety, and her blunt manner of speaking pushed her in another direction. Whether she liked it or not, she had the makings of a political envoy. As research grants on Allagan technology became sparser, the Miqo'te begrudgingly moved back to La Noscea to pursue her new career path. Now a diplomat for her homeland, she set out to expand the Eorzean Alliance with her peers. When she wasn't drafting speeches or stuck in meetings, Ujo was tinkering away with her knowledge of Allagan technology, making unusual weaponry to aid her in her travels. The more dangerous the terrain she traversed, the more experimental her work became. From firearms to explosives, she did it all with a fervent passion that burned as brightly as the masterpieces she detonated. After several years of behind-the-scenes grunt work, she was assigned as the head diplomat for Ishgard, and she quickly became enamored by the Coerthan city-state. Ujo had also developed a reputation amongst fellow engineers as someone perhaps too unconventional for academia, which caught the eye of the Machinist's Guild. She was met with endless correspondence from the Skysteel Manufactory, pestering her to visit and discuss schematics and methodology. After months of shying away, she caved, and her life changed forever.

As the Miqo'te Machinist became more involved with Ishgardian culture, she spent more time fixated on firearms to have an excuse to be in Coerthas outside of diplomatic reasons. She found herself thrilled with field testing, marrying her years of research and scholarly pursuits with something tangible. Running through abandoned fortresses and camps, dealing with hordes of monsters and horrors, blasting holes in them with something birthed from her knowledge... It was exhilarating.Ishgardians came to know of her as a mad scientist of sorts, and she was well aware of the whispers that followed her. There was a reason the rest of the guild preferred to practice wielding their prototypes in La Noscea. It made no difference to her-- Ujo already stuck out like a sore thumb. It wasn't as though she particularly minded, though. She had found a path that she truly wanted to follow, and by the Fury, she was going to stick to it.

Now, rather than wait for her life to begin between all the meetings and political niceties, Ujo runs headlong into what could give her promising insights into her passion projects. No matter where on Hydaelyn she needs to be for work, she finds a way to worm out and explore... and blast things to smithereens along the way. All in the name of her erudite pursuits, of course.Perhaps to some, the idea of the terse, awkward diplomat who valued candor and decorum above all else wielding horrific amalgams of firearms and ancient technology was a contradiction. But to Ujo, it was simple. Bullets shoot straight. Fire burns hot. Through such simple truths, she found her greatest comforts and companions. It was reassurance for someone who was, in fact, rather insecure in every other facet of her life. She still serves La Noscea as its main envoy for Ishgard and wishes to one day live in the city that stole her heart. While she still tinkers around in the Skysteel Manufactory, she has recently heard of a discipline called "Gunbreaker," and has been mighty curious about what such a title would entail...

Ujo hangs around Camp Dragonhead and the Forgotten Knight to hear about potential stomping grounds for her experiments. She is a sucker for mead, and desperately needs the warmth of the hearth as someone who grew up accustomed to La Noscea's more temperate climate. Her closest companions are her fellow Machinists, as well as those who accompany her on her travels between countries-- diplomats and mercenaries alike. She has also developed quite the crush on Ser Aymeric after years of political dealings with him and his entourage but is too meek outside of her experiments to speak of something so improper.

Physical Description:
Unusually tall for a Miqo'te woman, standing at five fulms and seven ilms. A tad waifish and lanky, with a tendency to curl in on herself. Pitch-black hair with a long, fluffy tail of the same color. Always has a fringe to hide her eyebrows, no matter the hairstyle. Extraordinarily light gold eyes, always framed by round wire glasses. Clad in blue regardless of the occasion, and never without the earring of her guardian, Menphina.
Hooks
Fellow Sharlayan scholars may recognize her from her many late nights scrawling out drafts, or from her work as a political envoy. "Please, spare me the details of finding me asleep in a puddle of ink. 'Twas humiliating to deliver my thesis in such a state."
Ishgardians may also recognize her for her diplomatic work, or for her experiments with the Machinist's Guild.
Rumors are swirling about regarding her behavior around the Lord Commander. "Why-- I-- That is entirely inappropriate! A man of his station would never stoop to such lows!"
While she is typically withdrawn, any mention of Allag or machinery will pique her interest and have her scampering toward the discussion with the subtlety and grace of an Adamantoise.
Any complaints about the Coerthan climate will have her chiming in. She will certainly be drawn to bemoaning the cold with fellow La Nosceans. "I love Ishgard. Truly, I do. However, I dearly miss the sunny shores of Costa del Sol..."
Ujo is a new Gunbreaker and is looking for someone to help her marry her love for firearms to the physical strength she currently lacks. TL;DR a teacher-student dynamic.
She was raised around rogues and scallywags, with her ex-partner being a high-profile pirate who used her for her proximity to the Limsan upper-class. Buccaneers will likely recognize her for this, and she is extraordinarily avoidant when she sees them near. "Those were darker days. Forget who I was then... I beg you."
Mead is this Miqo'te's favorite fix, especially when in Coerthas. Tavern-goers may chat up the Machinist clad in azure, as long as they don't mind a blunt and awkward drinking buddy.
Considering how much research she did on Allag and its technological advancements, it is only natural that she would have also studied Garlemald and Magitek. While she would never dare speak of this in public, she finds the empire and its technology fascinating. Her history crush is Solus zos Galvus, whom she collects clockwork dolls of. "I cannot in good faith disparage Garlemald and its scientific achievements. Any engineer would admire it thusly."
While only a handful of people know this, Ujo is an Archon. Her thesis on Allagan tech and its many uses, as well as her documentation of Azys Lla, earned her the title and mark. She keeps it hidden behind high collars and rarely speaks of her own achievements.
OOC
OOC, please refer to me as Jolyne! Fluent in English & Spanish, learning French. US EST on Marilith. As of now, I main MCH and am learning to tank. If you see me doing dailies, I am likely playing MCH, DRG, or GNB. I am a professional writer who has been roleplaying for many years on different platforms, but am new to RP on FFXIV (and FFXIV in general!). I have loved Final Fantasy for most of my life, with my favorite game of all time being FFXV. Writing is my main passion, but I also enjoy watching anime, reading, drawing, and hiking. When I'm not on FFXIV, I can be found DJing various basement shows or snobbishly sipping wine. All RP is okay with me! Please note that romance will only happen if it suits our characters and storyline. It's not something I am vying for, as I have my own canon for Ujo. But whatever happens happens, especially if we discuss it beforehand. I prefer literate roleplay with at least a paragraph-length response. RP on Discord, Tumblr, and FFXIV are all okay with me. If you're weird or rude, I will block you without a semblance of hesitation. Please, do not spoil anything beyond Stormblood for me! I am currently playing through the Shadowbringers patch quests.
